From Ozarkanglers.com: Al AgnewJul 26 2009, 09:49 PM The plastic that Coleman canoes are made from is notorious for being almost impossible to repair. Nothing sticks to it well. It doesn't weld well. Other (more expensive) canoe plastics are MUCH easier to repair. If you find something that really works, there are a lot of Coleman owners who'd probably love to hear about it. ollie Aug 20 2009, 07:45 AM "I have two words for this solution ; Hippo patch. Wait, it might be one with a hyphen, but either way I have had it on my kayak for over two years and haven't had a problem with it. I am not a gentle person with my yak either. " |

From clubkayak.com: BUBBA!S CORNER Here is a stocking stuffer for paddlers that you will not find in any kayak shop . In fact a check of the web site reveals it is only sold by six businesses. The Hippo Patch can be used to repair a hole in any fiberglass, aluminum, plastic, or wood boat. Simply clean the surface, dry it off, slap on a Hippo Patch and away you go. It works above and below the waterline and can also be used on tents and all other sports equipment. This is the only thing I know of that will stick to plastic kayaks and best of all it is not messy to use and it stays flexible I used it on a fiberglass kayak about six months ago that had a small hole in it. I put the patch on the inside of the hull and filled in the outside with a dab of PC-11 and gel coat, finished it with fine sandpaper and the boat has been in heavy use since then without problems. The Hippo patch can be painted to match the item being repaired. It can be easily removed to do a permanent repair. It is a handy addition to any kayak repair kit. It can be purchased from Cabela?s (money back guarantee) or on line at www.hippopatch.com. It?s sold in several different lengths. The 4 inch by 24 inch patch is the best size for kayaks." |
